Taiwan-US Biotech Association Hosts DC Meetup Event

The Taiwan-U.S. Biotech Association held a DC meetup event on 4/27 (Sat), marking its first appearance in the greater Washington D.C. area. President of the Taiwan-U.S. Biotech Association, Hsieh Shau-Ling, expressed that the theme of this event continues the association’s Meetup focus: “Career Matters with Fun Chat.” The main goal is to gather biotech professionals in the Washington D.C. area for networking. The event serves as a platform where participants can raise questions and share their situations in the American workplace. Through these discussions, they can find the best solutions. Hsieh also encouraged students to participate in networking events during their academic years, as such events can open up various opportunities, broaden their understanding of career diversity, and even make potential hiring managers familiar with them, giving them ample time to prepare and understand their competitiveness in the workplace.

This event also included a career Q&A segment where participants anonymously wrote down the issues they faced in their workplaces. These questions were then discussed during the event, allowing everyone to exchange ideas. Wendy Ding, the event organizer, noted that many people experience cultural shocks when entering the American workforce, facing numerous problems and situations for the first time and feeling perplexed about their career development. Through sharing at events like this, participants can find some methods to solve their issues and discover their career directions through these exchanges. This Q&A session aims to assist biotech professionals in the greater Washington D.C. area.

Participants in this event came from various industries including pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, CRO/CDMO, FDA, NIH, and more. Many attendees mentioned the scarcity of such biotech networking events in the Washington D.C. area, appreciating the opportunity to participate and get to know biotech professionals in the region to expand their networks and understand the local industry structure and job opportunities. The Taiwan-U.S. Biotech Association will continue to hold Meetup events in various locations. In 2024, they are planning to organize an event in New York City in the fall.
