The latest Japanese drama “Blue Moment: Weather Heroes at Dusk” starring Japanese actor Tomohisa Yamashita, is his return to portraying a rescue hero after a 7-year hiatus. In the drama, he plays a meteorology genius leading a rescue team on the front line to interpret weather changes and save lives.
The drama features popular actors such as Natsuki Export, Koji Mizukami, and Kaho, creating buzz even before its premiere. It was ranked first on a well-known Japanese drama information website as the most anticipated spring drama of 2024. On the 24th, it premiered in Japan with a viewership rating of 8.6%, setting a new record as the highest-rated premiere of a Wednesday night drama since April 2022.
“BLUE MOMENT: Weather Heroes at Dusk” is adapted from a manga of the same name, with Tomohisa Yamashita playing a meteorology genius in the series. Many perceive him as a weather-obsessed otaku, although all team members wear the same uniform, his handsome appearance continues to captivate viewers. A short 11-second video titled “Tomohisa Yamashita’s Special Feature” attracted 500,000 views, with comments like “Completely smitten,” “Having such a colleague would make going to work a joy every day,” and “The most handsome weather genius ever.”
To build anticipation, the production team even printed a special edition newspaper titled “Tomohisa Yamashita’s Special Feature” and distributed it on the streets of Tokyo on the day of the broadcast. Fans were eager to queue up to collect it, with requests online for proxy collection just to get their hands on the special edition newspaper featuring Yamashita Yamashita in uniform.
“BLUE MOMENT: Weather Heroes at Dusk” centers around the Special Disaster Mitigation Headquarters (SDM), portraying the story of meteorologist Kankuro Haruhara (played by Tomohisa Yamashita) and his team using their experience and knowledge to protect people threatened by natural disasters on the front lines and save lives.
The drama has already premiered on Fuji TV on the 24th and is also available for streaming on the Taiwanese platform Hami Video.
