Xiaomi’s SU7 collision and explosion incident on the highway continues to escalate, with Xiaomi disclosing details of the event on April 1st, causing its stock price to drop over 5% in the afternoon.
According to media reports from the Titanium Media App, Xiaomi Group’s stock price continued to plummet in the afternoon, with an intraday decline expanding to 5%, reaching a new low since February 18th and dropping 21% from the historical high of 59.45 Hong Kong dollars set on March 19th. Earlier, Xiaomi had just released details about the SU7 collision and explosion incident on the highway.
On March 29th, a Xiaomi SU7 crashed into a guardrail and caught fire on a highway in Anhui. According to family members, as the car doors could not be opened, three female college students onboard were burned alive.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Xiaomi issued a statement on April 1st, stating, “Before the accident, the vehicle was in NOA intelligent driving assistance mode, maintaining a speed of 116 km/h. Due to construction repairs, the roadway was blocked from the original lane, diverting to the opposite lane. The vehicle detected an obstacle, issued a warning, and began to decelerate. The driver subsequently took control of the vehicle, switched to manual driving mode, continued to decelerate, steered the vehicle, and then collided with a cement post on the barricade. The system confirmed that the speed just before the collision was approximately 97 km/h.”
According to Xiaomi’s statement, at 22:44:24 on March 29th, NOA issued a risk alert “Please be aware of obstacles ahead” and began to decelerate; at 22:44:25, NOA switched to manual driving mode; and between 22:44:26-28, the vehicle collided with the cement guardrail.
This has prompted netizens to question, “Only two seconds from the obstacle alert to the collision?””If the driver exits smart driving mode just one second before the accident, does it no longer count as a smart driving mishap?”
The statement has sparked dissatisfaction among many netizens. Netizens have expressed, “Not a single mention of the fire?””Why couldn’t the doors be opened?””No explanation about the doors not opening, whether the safety airbags deployed, or if the vehicle caught fire?””So, did the battery catch fire? Doors couldn’t open? Key information was not provided at all…””Why hasn’t the issue of the vehicle catching fire and doors not opening been addressed?”
“Burned alive, agonizing for three days.””Downplaying significant incidents and trivializing expressions throughout the article, not mentioning the vehicle catching fire and three young girls burned to death.””Now, the family says the doors couldn’t be opened, which is the fatal point!”
