Last month, mainland Chinese actor Wang Xing, who escaped from a scam compound in Myanmar, not only released a new single but also participated in the variety show “Infinite Beyond Class.” On the day of the recording, he appeared with his girlfriend Jia Jia, who had alerted authorities to rescue him, and their supportive interaction earned praise from netizens.
The 32-year-old Wang Xing was lured to Thailand on January 3 under the pretext of filming, only to later go missing. It was later revealed that he had been taken to a scam compound in Myanmar, forced to shave his head, and locked in a room to practice fraudulent activities. Thanks to the widespread online plea for help from his girlfriend Jia Jia and numerous celebrities sharing the message, Wang Xing was successfully rescued and returned to Shanghai on January 11.
On the 15th of this month, Wang Xing released a digital single titled “Fireworks After Darkness,” singing about the feeling of seeing a glimmer of hope when overwhelmed by worry, fear, and the brink of giving up.
After being rescued, Wang Xing revealed that he had been deceived by a prominent entertainment company in Thailand, being sent to a third country for filming via Thailand as a transit stop. Actress Shao Yifan, who had worked with Wang Xing on the mainland drama “Rationalists,” commented that Wang Xing was just a “grassroots actor,” and the reason he was deceived was due to a lack of acting opportunities and financial difficulties.
Wang Xing has appeared in dramas such as “Fox Spirit Matchmaker,” “The Rose’s Story,” “Criminal Guide 2,” and “Psychologist,” mostly in supporting roles. His once shaved head had grown into a crew cut, and his girlfriend helped tidy up his appearance. That day, he posted a promotional photo on Weibo holding a sign that read, “Never give up on yourself,” with his girlfriend leaving an encouraging comment: “Just return to your usual self, keep going!” Netizens also rallied behind him with messages like, “From near-death to a new lease on life,” and “From adversity to prosperity.”
Wang Xing’s girlfriend Jia Jia undoubtedly played a crucial role in his successful rescue. In a recent interview with “New Yellow River,” she revealed that when people are taken to the telecommunication fraud compound, they are allowed to call their families to reassure them. Before losing contact on the Thailand-Myanmar border, Wang Xing had a video call with her, during which he mentioned that the filming schedule would be extended and he wouldn’t be coming home for the New Year, giving her an option to leave if she didn’t want to wait.
Upon realizing Wang Xing was in danger, Jia Jia was determined, stating, “Breaking up is not an option. I must rescue you.” Netizens commended her, saying, “Having such a remarkably intelligent girlfriend is truly his blessing.”
