A Vietnamese woman accidentally triggered an explosion during a birthday party by igniting a helium balloon, causing flames to shoot up to the ceiling, resulting in burns on her face and hands, creating a horrifying scene. She hopes that others will learn from her mistake and avoid similar accidents.
The woman, named Phạm Thị Giang, held a birthday celebration at a restaurant in Hanoi on February 14. The restaurant was filled with air-filled balloons, and she had also ordered a bouquet of helium-filled balloons for the occasion.
As the party was coming to an end, she held a birthday cake with candles in one hand and the helium balloon in the other, posing for photos with friends and family. Unfortunately, the helium balloon accidentally touched the flame of the candle.
In an instant, the helium balloon exploded, emitting a fierce flame that shot up to the ceiling. She quickly dropped the cake and balloon, rushing to the bathroom to rinse the burnt areas with water before being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Several days later, she shared a video of the accident on social media, hoping to raise awareness and prevent such incidents from happening again.
In her post, she wrote, “The accident happened six days ago, but it wasn’t until today that I could calm down enough to review the process of the balloon explosion that caused my burns.”
She said, “In the past few days, my friends have asked about my condition, and I sent them this video, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. The accident frightened me. I found my face burnt, and I was confused. I cried all day because I didn’t know how my life and work would be after my face was injured like this.”
Fortunately, she suffered only first and second-degree burns and received treatment at the hospital. The doctor assured her that once her scars healed completely, there would be no visible marks. However, her skin would take several months to regain its original color.
She added that she was unaware that the balloon was filled with flammable helium, and the business did not inform her. This may have been due to the high demand for balloons on Valentine’s Day.
She said, “If I had known, I would never have put myself in such a dangerous situation. That’s why I shared my unfortunate accident.”
