Valentine’s Day at Times Square: Proposals and Weddings

On February 14th, many couples chose to spend Valentine’s Day at the famous landmark, Times Square in Manhattan, New York. The 17th annual Valentine’s Day commemoration ceremony was hosted by the Times Square Alliance, where two couples tied the knot amidst colorful confetti while another two pairs of lovers held their engagement ceremonies.

One couple, Kimberley Cambron and William Edward, traveled all the way from California to New York for this special occasion. Edward expressed his romantic gesture by deciding to celebrate Valentine’s Day at Times Square, saying, “I’ve never been here before, but I know Times Square must be very romantic.”

They registered for the event as wedding participants and were granted permission. Kimberley, with a smile, said, “Everything happened so quickly. I thought we would have to wait another six to eight months to get married.”

The wedding preparations were rushed, with outfits and accessories being organized just four to five days before the event, and they were busy even until the previous day.

Discussing the secret to their sweet relationship, Kimberley shared, “We promised each other early on that we would always communicate honestly, no matter what issues we faced. Love is a choice that you can’t give up on; you have to keep moving forward. We’ve had our disagreements, but as long as we are open and honest, we can always be there for each other.”

Another couple, Ariadna Hazel and Mars Carbonell, also exchanged vows in front of everyone. Following the officiant’s lead, they swore, “Through good times and bad, in riches and in poverty, in health and sickness, I will love and cherish you faithfully until death do us part.”

Speaking about why they chose to get married at Times Square, Mars, a New York native, mentioned that it was where they first met. Getting married at this “crossroads of the world” was the perfect choice for them. Having met through work, the couple had been in a relationship for 16 years, and they planned their honeymoon in the Philippines.

Despite the near-zero temperatures that day, the bride, Ariadna, joyfully remarked, “I don’t feel cold at all.” Well-wishers surrounded them, expressing, “It’s love that warms you.”

On that day, an Asian man named Ashish Karade proposed to his girlfriend of seven years, Neha Bellary. They met in their freshman year of college and started a long-distance relationship after graduating.

As the big screen at Times Square displayed the words “Neha, will you marry me?” Ashish knelt down on one knee, presenting the ring and asking, “Will you marry me?”

Overjoyed, Neha enthusiastically responded, “I would love to!”

Neha had no idea about the surprise as Ashish and his friends had carefully planned the event. Ashish shared, “We just told her it was a walk, and we surprised her with this proposal. I am thrilled!” He further revealed, “We might get married in a week; I have already planned it secretly.”

Neha expressed, “It was a huge surprise but also the most wonderful thing. Thank you for everything you have done for me; I love you wholeheartedly.”

From Brooklyn, Mitch Dudley prepared a surprise proposal for his girlfriend, Sabrina. He told Sabrina that they were going to Times Square together for breakfast and to participate in a couples’ game show to test their understanding of each other.

After the meal, as they were about to leave in a car, Sabrina noticed cameras around and felt puzzled. Then, on a giant billboard appeared the words, “Sabrina, will you marry me?” Instantly, Dudley knelt down, presented the ring, and proposed. Overwhelmed with emotion, Sabrina burst into tears.

Sabrina shared with everyone that it was the most unforgettable and beautiful day for them, a significant anniversary as 15 years ago, they had their first date at Times Square.
