On Monday, a US government official disclosed that the United States has warned the Iranian government to halt all conspiracies against former President and future presidential candidate Donald Trump (Trump), and stated that Washington will consider any attempt to harm Trump as an act of war.
The anonymous official mentioned that President Biden regularly receives briefings on threats from Iran and has instructed the team to address conspiracies by Iran against Americans. Under Biden’s directive, senior US officials have issued warnings to the top echelons of the Iranian government, demanding Tehran to cease all conspiracies against Trump and former US officials.
The official stated that Iran has been informed that any actions threatening Trump’s life will be viewed by Washington as acts of war. Iran has denied interfering in US affairs.
In January 2020, then-US President Trump ordered an airstrike that killed the top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani, as intelligence indicated that Soleimani was planning imminent attacks on US diplomats and armed forces in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and other parts of the Middle East.
On September 24, Trump’s campaign team announced that Trump had received briefings from US intelligence officials regarding threats from Iran.
The White House mentioned that the US has been closely monitoring threats from Iran against Trump for years and has warned Tehran that it will face “severe consequences” if it attacks any American citizens.
Sean Savett, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, stated, “We view this as a matter of utmost national security and condemn Iran’s blatant threats. If Iran attacks any of our citizens, including those currently or formerly serving the United States, Iran will face serious consequences.”
He further mentioned that relevant agencies are continuously and promptly providing information on evolving threats to Trump’s security team.
Savett also added, “In addition, President Biden has reiterated his directive, demanding that the US Secret Service has all necessary resources, capabilities, and protective measures to address these evolving threats.”
