A man in Michigan purchased a lottery ticket as a birthday gift for his father and was shocked to discover that he had won a whopping $1.1 million prize. The man, residing in Macomb County, shared that he bought a Lotto 47 ticket from the Michigan Lottery at the liquor store “Liquor Land,” which held a special significance for him.
“I rarely buy lottery tickets, but when I do, I always buy them from ‘Liquor Land’ because I remember my father used to buy them there when I was a kid,” the man said.
The numbers on the ticket matched the six winning numbers from a recent draw, leading the father and son to claim the $1.1 million jackpot.
“When my father went to claim the prize after the draw, he had to double-check multiple times to believe what he was seeing,” the man expressed.
Lottery spokesperson Suzanna Shkreli remarked, “What an unforgettable birthday gift from son to father. It’s nearly impossible to find a better gift than this, but sharing such a wonderful memory and winning the jackpot with family is priceless!”
The man and his father recently visited the lottery headquarters to claim their prize. They opted for a lump sum payment of approximately $763,000 after taxes instead of receiving it in installments. They plan to use the winnings to pay bills and invest the remaining money in business ventures.
Each ticket for the Lotto 47 lottery game is sold for $1. Players can choose six numbers from 1 to 47, and if those numbers match the drawn numbers exactly, they win the jackpot. The jackpot starts at $1 million and continues to accumulate until someone wins.
