The Trump administration has launched a mobile application that allows undocumented immigrants living in the United States to report their self-deportation plans to the federal government.
The “CBP Home” app was announced by the Department of Homeland Security on Monday morning, March 10th. The app includes a feature that allows users to notify the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of their plans to voluntarily leave the United States with just a click of a button.
It appears that the “CBP Home” app replaces the “CBP One” app from the Biden era. “CBP One” allowed foreign immigrants to schedule asylum requests at entry ports.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated in a press release, “The CBP Home app provides foreign nationals with the option for immediate departure and self-deportation, so they still have the opportunity to return legally and achieve the American dream in the future.”
“If they don’t do so, we will find them and expel them, and they will never be able to come back,” she added.
The new app is part of the Trump administration’s “Stay Out, Leave Immediately” initiative, aiming to prevent illegal entry and encourage those who have entered illegally or are waiting in the immigration court system to voluntarily return to their home countries at their own expense.
Homeland Security expressed in the announcement that promoting immigrant departures from the U.S. could ease the burden on law enforcement agencies. President Trump has authorized law enforcement agencies to arrest and expel immigrants who have entered the U.S. illegally.
The new app effectively replaces and reverses the functionality of the “CBP One” app from the Biden era. The Biden government had utilized “CBP One” to allow immigrants outside the U.S. to schedule appointments or flights to the U.S., and then be granted a two-year stay in the U.S. under parole conditions. The Trump administration canceled this feature of “CBP One” in January 2025.
“The Biden government allowed over a million foreign nationals to enter the U.S. illegally using the CBP One app,” Noem said. “With the launch of CBP Home, we are restoring the integrity of the immigration system.”
CBP Home can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple Store.
Previously, the Trump administration had separately required undocumented immigrants to register with the government and undergo fingerprint identification. However, since the government essentially did not know where undocumented immigrants resided, the threat of expulsion may deter most from registering.
It is estimated that there are over 11 million undocumented foreign immigrants in the U.S. For them, it is advisable to contact a lawyer in advance to understand the policies and procedures through formal channels and avoid spreading or believing in rumors.
