Two police officers in Bozhou, Anhui Province, were reported for engaging in illegal surrogacy, a piece of news confirmed by relevant authorities. The news made it to the top of Baidu’s hot search on February 27.
Chinese anti-human trafficking volunteer Shangguan Zhengyi posted on his personal Weibo on February 25 that he had received information about the handling of the report regarding law enforcement personnel in Bozhou, Anhui, engaging in illegal surrogacy.
Shangguan Zhengyi’s Weibo post revealed that Deputy Squadron Leader Zhao of a certain bureau in Bozhou was given a severe warning and dismissed from the Party, while Deputy Director Zhang of the Security Department of another bureau in Bozhou received an internal Party warning and was removed from his position. Both individuals were transferred out of the public security agency. They are the sister and brother-in-law of the mastermind behind the surrogacy company, Zhang.
According to Jímù News on February 26, on the afternoon of February 25, relevant departments in Bozhou confirmed to the media that, following an investigation by the discipline inspection department of Bozhou, the final decision was made to transfer the two public officials out of the public security agency.
On December 13, 2024, anti-human trafficking volunteer Shangguan Zhengyi publicly reported the existence of illegal surrogacy activities in Feidong County, Hefei, Anhui, involving medical staff and public officials from medical institutions in Hefei, Bozhou, Nanjing, and others. The surrogacy agency conducted illegal surrogacy activities under the guise of medical consultation and reproductive health, falsely used other companies for contract signing, and operated underground operating rooms for egg retrieval, embryo cultivation, and transplantation activities in Nanjing and Hefei.
Shangguan Zhengyi mentioned on his Weibo that the legal representative of Anhui Youming Medical Technology Co., Ltd., Zhang, was listed by the court as a person subject to enforcement for dishonesty, and the vehicles used to transport pregnant women and egg donors were all registered under the name of his sister, Zhang.
However, some netizens expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation, deeming the transfer from positions too light. “Power feels good for a moment,” one said, “Transfer, haha.”
