Recently in the United States, President-elect Donald Trump (Donald Trump) has announced his intention to appoint Sean Curran, a Secret Service agent responsible for his personal protection, as the Director of the United States Secret Service.
Sean Curran is currently in charge of overseeing all Secret Service personnel and assets assigned to protect Trump, traveling with him and maintaining a close proximity at all times. He was one of the first agents to rush to protect Trump during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
On January 17, members of the Trump family announced that Curran would be appointed as the Director of the United States Secret Service by Trump himself, without the need for Senate confirmation.
Donald Trump’s eldest son and honorary chairman of the Trump-Pence transition team, Donald Trump Jr., took to social media to express his support for Curran’s appointment, calling him a great patriot who will put a stop to all madness and stating that there is no one more qualified for the position.
Following two assassination attempts against Trump during the 2024 election campaign, many political figures from both parties in the United States criticized the Secret Service for failing to prevent suspects from bringing firearms to Trump’s events.
During the first assassination attempt, multiple bullets were fired at Trump, with one grazing his right ear. The incident resulted in the death of one audience member and injuries to two others.
The second assassination attempt took place on September 15 last year at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. An independent investigation ordered by President Biden into the first attempted assassination is still ongoing. After the incidents, members of Congress demanded a leadership change within the Secret Service. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in July of last year.
Although Trump has not officially announced this news, many Republican lawmakers have expressed their praise for Curran’s appointment on social media.
Congressman Josh Brecheen wrote on X, “Sean Curran is an excellent choice for the Director of the Secret Service,” emphasizing the need for exemplary leadership in various government sectors, with Curran being the ideal model for such leadership, and the American people eagerly anticipating the changes he will bring to the Secret Service.
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert also voiced her support, saying on X, “When the President was shot in the head in Butler, Sean Curran helped save his life. Now he will be the Director of the Secret Service! This is fantastic news.”
There was no immediate response from Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary designated by Trump and spokesperson during the Trump-Pence transition period, to requests for comments from the Epoch Times.
