Trump signs executive order to initiate dissolution of the Department of Education.

On Thursday, March 20th, President Trump signed an executive order at the White House in the presence of students and education workers, beginning the process of dismantling the Department of Education, fulfilling his long-standing campaign promise to conservatives.

During the signing ceremony, Trump was surrounded by a group of children. Each of them sat at their own desks and also signed papers. After Trump finished signing, the children mimicked the president, raising their signatures as well.

“We will be shutting down the Department [of Education] as soon as possible,” Trump said. “It is not beneficial to us.”

When discussing the start of dismantling the Department of Education, Trump told Education Secretary Linda McMahon that she was “responsible for a very important thing,” and when she completes this process, he would find “other things for her to do.”

“You will do great,” he said. “I hope you won’t be there for too long. But we will find other things for you, Linda.”

The president also praised American teachers, saying, “I don’t care if they join the union or not, but we will take care of our teachers.”

According to government statistics, approximately 70% of public school teachers are union members.

“We will take care of our teachers,” the president said. “We will care for and cherish our teachers just like we care for our children.”
