On Wednesday, November 13th, President-elect Trump returned to the Washington D.C. and held a meeting with Republican lawmakers in Congress.
Prior to his meeting with President Biden at the White House, Trump met with a large group of House Republicans at the Hyatt hotel and was warmly welcomed by those present.
This was Trump’s first speech to Republicans in Washington since winning the 2024 presidential election last week. In the election, Trump won 312 electoral votes, while the Democratic candidate Hillary received 226 electoral votes.
During his speech, the President-elect naturally mentioned the election on November 5th. He stated that many traditionally blue states are shifting to the right.
“I am always happy to win,” Trump said, “We won all seven swing states by a large margin.”
He added that in the next election, if the Republican Party can further increase its support, it is possible to “flip states like New Jersey, New York, and California.”
According to CNN, a source in the meeting room said that House Speaker Mike Johnson described President-elect Trump as the “comeback king” at a closed-door meeting of House Republicans before Trump arrived.
“We are riding on his wave,” Johnson said, “His influence is tremendous.”
House Republicans will hold a closed-door meeting at 2:30 pm on Wednesday to elect the next generation of leaders. Johnson is seeking re-election.
Insiders told CNN that during the meeting with Republicans, Trump expressed his continuous support for Johnson.
Insiders also mentioned that on Wednesday, Trump joked with House Republicans about not being able to shake off billionaire Musk.
When talking about Musk, Trump said, “He likes Mar-a-Lago.” Trump announced yesterday that Musk will be the co-leader of the newly established “Department of Government Efficiency.”
Musk has been a frequent visitor to Trump. He also arrived in Washington on Wednesday to attend the meeting with Trump and Republicans.
According to sources, since Trump’s victory in the election last week, this tech billionaire has been appearing at Mar-a-Lago almost every day. When several world leaders were calling Trump, Musk was present, contributing to personnel decisions.
