Trump makes surprise appearance at New York construction site, labor union leaders say former president wins people’s hearts

Former US President Trump visited grassroots voters at a Manhattan construction site early in the morning on April 25th, ahead of his court appearance related to the hush money case, continuing his whirlwind visit to New York City’s Harlem grocery store owners last week, to strengthen his support and lay the groundwork for the 2024 election at the end of the year.

Upon Trump’s arrival at the site, he was warmly welcomed by swarms of New York construction workers. The Steamfitters Local 638 union, which has around 9,000 members, saw their union manager Bartels present at the event.

Bartels later gave an interview to Fox News, analyzing why blue-collar workers are tired of the Biden administration and choosing to switch their support to Trump despite his legal challenges. According to Bartels, internal polls within the union show that two-thirds of union members intend to vote for Trump.

Although Bartels himself is a seasoned Democrat, he mentioned that the political leanings of the union members mostly align with the Democratic Party.

Explaining why blue-collar members are considering a switch to Trump, Bartels told the Fox host, “They (union members) are very anxious, they count the days because some of them are struggling to pay their bills, I think that needs to change.”

Bartels stressed that Trump’s legal issues will not affect his decision to vote for Trump in the November election. He further stated that according to polls covering the 9,000 union members regarding the presidential election, the ratio of support for Trump to support for President Biden is three to one, meaning that three-quarters of surveyed members are inclined to vote for Trump.

“We are very fed up with the state of food groceries, inflation, gas prices, illegal immigration, and crime, but we live this life every day in New York City,” Bartels said.
