Trump Highlights Importance of Debating with Heather Hill for the Country

Former US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that it is “very important” for the country that he debates his 2024 election opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, and predicted that they will soon face off on the debate stage.

Trump, during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” program on Wednesday, stated, “I think in the near future, we will debate with her.”

“We will announce it soon. But we will debate with her,” Trump said. “By the way, I hope Fox [TV station] hosts this debate.”

“The most important thing is that we can debate,” Trump emphasized to the Fox News host, adding that Harris “says I don’t want to debate, but I do want to debate.”

Trump mentioned that other television networks such as NBC and CBS have also been lobbying, hoping for the opportunity to host the event.

“I want to debate her. I think it’s very important for the country that we debate,” said the Republican presidential nominee. “As it stands now, I am fully in favor of Fox. I believe Fox will do a great job. But both parties must agree.”

Last Friday, Trump announced that he had “terminated” the agreement with ABC to participate in the second presidential debate hosted by the network on September 10. The reason cited was that his originally scheduled debate opponent was President Biden, who has since withdrawn from the race, and Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee, was not part of the contractual debate.

After Trump made this decision, Harris’s campaign team and allies released a series of comments, accusing the former president of being “afraid to debate.”

Trump proposed a debate with Harris on September 4 at Fox News Channel in Pennsylvania, with Fox hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum moderating.

However, Harris rejected this proposal, writing on social media platform X that she still plans to participate in the ABC debate on September 10, and regardless of whether Trump attends, she intends to be present at that time.
