Trump appoints hush money lawyer as interim prosecutor for the state

On Monday (March 24), President Trump announced that Alina Habba, the defense attorney for the hush money case, will serve as the interim United States Attorney for New Jersey.

“Habba will uphold the diligence and beliefs she has demonstrated throughout her career, tirelessly advocating for a ‘fair and just’ legal system for the outstanding people of New Jersey,” Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social.

The President stated that Habba’s appointment will take effect immediately as the current interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, John Giordano, has been nominated as the U.S. Ambassador to Namibia.

Habba, who was born in New Jersey, is of Iraqi immigrant descent. In 2021, she distinguished herself for her work as part of Trump’s legal team in handling the hush money case. During Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, Habba served as his presidential advisor.

As the interim U.S. Attorney, Habba will be able to serve for 120 days, and if the majority of the 17 federal district court judges in New Jersey vote to approve, her term may be extended.

Habba responded to the President’s statement on social media, saying, “I am honored to serve as the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, and I thank President Trump for entrusting me with this significant responsibility.”

“Just as I did during my time as President Trump’s personal attorney, I will continue to fight for truth and justice,” she said. “We will put an end to weaponizing the judiciary, permanently.”

Let’s hope that Habba’s commitment to upholding justice and fairness brings positive changes and advancements to New Jersey’s legal system.
