Toyota Motor announced on Tuesday (December 24) that it will donate $1 million to support the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. On the same day, Ford Motor and General Motors, both located in Detroit, also announced that they will donate the same amount to support Trump’s inauguration.
Ford and General Motors will also provide vehicles for the inauguration celebration, while a spokesperson for Toyota emphasized that the Japanese company will not be involved in this part of the event.
Trump has proposed imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, which will affect many car manufacturers in North America, including Toyota, which produces Tacoma pickups in Mexico. According to Reuters, Trump, who is set to return to the White House, plans to overturn several of President Joe Biden’s policies related to electric vehicles and emissions.
After Trump’s election victory, other major companies such as Amazon and Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, have also made donations to support Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
