The headline is: “Blue Origin Successfully Completes Space Voyage with Pop Star, a New Milestone Reached”

Blue Origin successfully completed a historic space mission on Monday (April 14th), carrying Jeff Bezos’s fiancee, Lauren Sánchez, pop megastar Katy Perry, and four other women on a roughly 11-minute suborbital flight before safely returning to Earth.

The mission, named “NS-31”, was conducted by the New Shepard spacecraft and took off from Launch Site One in Texas at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. This marked the 11th crewed flight for Blue Origin since 2021. Notably, this mission featured an all-female crew including Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, TV personality Gayle King, STEMBoard CEO Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyễn, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

During the flight, the rocket completed the Main Engine Cut-Off (MECO) and the capsule separated from the booster before the crew experienced weightlessness as they crossed the Kármán line, the boundary between space and the atmosphere. The booster successfully landed vertically while the crew capsule safely touched down using a parachute system.

After the mission, Sánchez emerged from the spacecraft expressing pride for the group of astronauts and describing Earth as “quiet but vibrant.” Reports indicated that the crew marveled at the majestic view of the moon from inside the capsule.

The mission coincided with “International Human Space Flight Day”, and NASA took to social media to express its support for returning to the moon and reaching Mars.

Gayle King revealed that upon returning to their seats after experiencing weightlessness, Katy Perry spontaneously sang Louis Armstrong’s classic song “What a Wonderful World”. Reflecting on the experience, Perry said, “It was a true flight, and I can’t believe what I saw.”

Perry shared her emotions upon returning to Earth, stating, “The strongest emotion I felt was love. It was the peak of life, surrendering and trusting the unknown.” She recommended the experience wholeheartedly and confirmed she would turn the space journey into a song without hesitation.

According to Blue Origin spokesperson Bill Kircos, some passengers flew for free while others paid for the opportunity, although specific names were not disclosed. Blue Origin has not revealed ticket prices, while its main rival Virgin Galactic previously offered tickets ranging from $250,000 to $450,000.

In the past, Blue Origin has hosted guests such as Wally Funk, who flew with Bezos in 2021. Funk was selected by NASA in the 1960s for astronaut training but did not make it to space until joining Bezos, becoming the oldest astronaut in history.

The crew members wore custom-made space suits designed in collaboration by Sánchez and fashion brand Monse. The suits featured a tight-fitting cobalt blue design with slightly flared pants, and “Blue Origin” branding on the arms and legs alongside the company’s feather logo. Sánchez shared a video on Instagram testing the new uniform with squats, remarking, “Yep, pretty comfortable!”

The mission’s emblem, unveiled in late March, displays the surnames of the six female members and silhouettes of the six women, symbolizing this extraordinary flight.
