On the morning of the 2nd, the Media Briefing of the 12th World Peace Forum and the “Tsinghua Salon” Media Salon were held in Beijing. Yan Xuetong, Secretary-General of the World Peace Forum and Dean of the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University introduced the relevant details of this year’s forum.
Yan Xuetong stated that the 12th World Peace Forum will be held on July 6-7. The theme of this forum is “Enhancing Global Security Governance: Upholding Justice, Promoting Unity, and Seeking Cooperation.” Key discussions will focus on how countries can reach a consensus amidst the challenges of deglobalization, promote new cooperation, mitigate the impact of wars on the globe, restore a stable international order, and collectively safeguard world peace. The forum aims to gather insights and discuss and propose recommendations on international and regional situations.
Yan Xuetong introduced that this year’s forum will feature four plenary sessions, 19 panel discussions (including one closed-door session), and six press conferences. Topics of the plenary sessions include “Promoting the Concept of Peaceful Coexistence and Common Security,” “Upholding World Peace and Equity: The Role of Middle Powers,” “Demonstrating Great Powers’ Responsibilities in Maintaining Peace and Security,” and “The Role of Global South in Upholding Peace,” among others. Topics of other panel discussions include “Maintaining Sustainable Peace in the Asia-Pacific,” “Global South and the International Order,” “Promoting Peace and Stability in the Middle East Together,” “China-Japan Cooperation in East Asia,” “US-China Relations After the San Francisco Summit,” “European Security and Peace,” “China’s Cooperation with South Asia,” “ASEAN’s Approach to Asia-Pacific Order,” “BRICS Expansion and Its Impacts,” “Maintaining Peace Amidst International Order Transformation,” “Adherence to Humanitarian Norms in Armed Conflicts,” and “Nuclear Risks in a Divided World,” among others.
At the briefing, Yan Xuetong also revealed that this year’s forum has invited nearly thirty former officials and think tank leaders from the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and other regions to participate in China, representing an increase of nearly one-third compared to last year.
Founded in 2012, the World Peace Forum is an unofficial annual international security forum hosted by Tsinghua University and co-organized by the China Institute of International Studies. Upholding principles of openness, inclusivity, freedom, and equality, the World Peace Forum provides a platform for delegates from various countries to express their perspectives, ideas, and proposals. To date, it has successfully held 11 sessions.
