Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, was the site of a recent shooting incident at a restaurant. A man got into a conflict with someone and was shot at by the other party. Fortunately, the man was wearing an amulet called a “Phra Pidta” on his chest, which is believed by believers to have the protection of the deity, and the amulet deflected the bullet, saving his life.
According to a report from the Thai website Thaiger, the incident occurred on June 12th at a restaurant in the Bang Khen district of Bangkok. A 50-year-old businessman named Phonchai had a dispute with a 28-year-old man and was shot at twice by the other person, one bullet hitting Phonchai in the left chest.
Luckily, the bullet first hit the Phra Pidta amulet worn by Phonchai on his chest, and got stuck in the amulet. Due to the amulet lessening the impact, the bullet did not penetrate Phonchai’s chest directly, although he was still injured and was treated at a hospital with no serious consequences.
After preliminary investigations, the police found that Phonchai and his friends were originally seated at table number 35 with the windows behind them closed. Two bullet casings and the damaged amulet hit by the bullet were found at the scene, with the bullet still lodged in the amulet.
Local residents believe in the supernatural power of amulets like the Phra Pidta to protect people. There is a legend saying that once two groups of thugs who were fighting noticed that they both wore amulets, so they stopped the fight, and no one was injured in the earlier fight.
In this shooting incident, Phonchai might have been shot due to a dispute over real estate transactions. An employee at the restaurant told the police that Phonchai often discussed real estate deals with his friends at the restaurant, and he was doing the same on the day of the shooting incident.
The suspect is believed to have shot Phonchai due to dissatisfaction over the benefits from a real estate auction. After the shooting, he fled in a white pickup truck but later surrendered to the Bang Khen district police.
Following the shooting incident, guests inside the restaurant hurriedly fled without settling their bills. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the tables and chairs in disarray, with bloodstains scattered around.
The restaurant owner, Prasit, understood why the guests fled in a panic but urged them to return and settle their bills.
