Tavia Yeung Reveals Being Betrayed by Fellow Actor on Set, Director Angry Over Late Arrival

Hong Kong actress Tavia Yeung, who portrayed the role of “Empress” in the drama “Empresses in the Palace” 14 years ago, recently reminisced on the variety show “Renewed Travel Chronicles”. She recalled a time during filming when she was not called to set on time. She told a mainland Chinese actor who was also filming the scene with her that she would go sit at a nearby restaurant and asked them to call her back when it was her turn. Despite the actor’s assurances, she was ultimately betrayed, leading to her being severely criticized by the director for arriving late.

Known as the “Empresses in the Palace” team variety show, the variety program “Renewed Travel Chronicles” announced the start of filming on May 9 this year. Although the actress Sun Li, who played the iconic character “Empress” in the drama, did not officially confirm her participation in the variety show’s recording, the program still gathered main actors from “Empresses in the Palace” such as Chen Jianbin, Tavia Yeung, Tao Hsin-jan, Lan Yingying, Lan Xi, Zhang Xiaolong, and Chen Sisi.

After many actors shared behind-the-scenes photos from the filming, Tavia Yeung recently recalled on “Renewed Travel Chronicles” an experience from 14 years ago while shooting “Empresses in the Palace”. She recounted a time when she was intentionally tripped up by a fellow actor on set. She explained that she once waited a long time for her turn to film, and agreed with the other actor filming the same scene to go to a restaurant and return immediately when it was time for her scene, to which the actor replied “okay” and even urged her to hurry back.

Unexpectedly, fully dressed for the scene, Tavia Yeung waited for a long time at the restaurant, thinking it wasn’t yet her turn. Bored, she decided to return to the set to check on the situation and was shocked to find all the crew waiting at the door for her. The director angrily said to her, “The whole world is waiting for you!”

Surprised, Tavia Yeung asked, “Why is everyone waiting for me? Didn’t I say I was at the restaurant?” The actor she entrusted initially pushed her, saying, “Stop talking, hurry up and go in to film.”

Feeling frustrated, Tavia Yeung questioned why the actor didn’t inform her, leaving the director and crew waiting. She felt very sorry and didn’t want to waste everyone’s time. She regretted going to the restaurant and blamed herself for causing delays on the set, especially when she was only one scene away from finishing filming.

Later on, Tavia Yeung asked the assistant director, “Didn’t you know I was waiting upstairs?” The assistant director replied, “No one told us.” Tavia Yeung emphasized that she had informed a certain actor, pressing further, “Didn’t he tell you?” The assistant director responded, “We didn’t know where you were, we asked, and he didn’t say.” Tavia Yeung realized she needed to be cautious around that actor moving forward.
