Taiwan’s Six Major Cities Prepare for Lunar New Year Recycling and Waste Disposal Before New Year’s Eve

As the Lunar New Year holiday approaches, have you started your big spring cleaning at home? Do you remember how to recycle old clothes and large trash? Pay attention to the garbage collection schedule during the Lunar New Year period in the six major cities of Taiwan (Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City). The Central News Agency has compiled the garbage collection schedule and related information for the six major cities during the Lunar New Year in 2025 to help you welcome the New Year by getting rid of the old and embracing the new.

Regular Collection: January 27th (New Year’s Eve), January 28th (Lunar New Year)

Suspension of Collection: January 29th to 31st (1st to 3rd day of Lunar New Year)

Additional Collection: February 1st (4th day of Lunar New Year)

Resumption of Collection: February 3rd (Monday)

Each administrative district has designated garbage collection points with specific information available on the websites of the Environmental Protection Bureaus of respective cities.

For bulky waste, ensure to make reservations by 4:30 PM on January 26th at the latest for next-day collection. Otherwise, you will need to wait until the 6th day of the Lunar New Year, February 3rd, to make a reservation. The phone reservation time for the cleaning teams in each area is from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Saturday. If you miss the time slots, you can call 1999 to make a reservation.

Regular Collection: January 27th (New Year’s Eve), January 28th (Lunar New Year) from morning until 6 PM

Suspension of Collection: January 29th to 31st (1st to 3rd day of Lunar New Year)

Resumption of Collection: February 1st (4th day of Lunar New Year)

During the suspension period, there are 70 designated collection points for disposing of garbage.

For bulky waste, make sure to register with the cleaning team by January 19th at the latest. From January 20th to 28th, only post-holiday collection reservations will be accepted.

In Taichung City, there will be an increase in collection services for large waste items such as furniture, mattresses, bed frames, bicycles, fans, sofas, tables, chairs, and more. Register with the cleaning teams by January 25th for collection until January 27th, with resumption on February 1st (4th day of Lunar New Year).

Regular Collection: January 28th (Lunar New Year) with early collection at 9 AM, Tuesday and Saturday routes

Suspension of Collection: January 29th to 31st (1st to 3rd day of Lunar New Year)

Additional Collection: February 1st (4th day of Lunar New Year) with a morning collection at 8 AM, Monday and Thursday routes; regular nighttime collection, Tuesday and Saturday routes

Resumption of Collection: February 3rd (Monday)
