Taiwan’s Indigenous Defense Fighter Successfully Conducts Airborne Test with Sky Sword III Missile

Recently, it has been confirmed by informed sources that Taiwan’s Institute of Nuclear and Energy Research is developing an air-launched version of the Hsiung Feng III missile, referred to as “Project Xiong Ji.” The IDF Ching-kuo fighter jets have been conducting tests with the air-launched Hsiung Feng III missile mounted on the ground. On the 7th, witnesses reported seeing the IDF Ching-kuo fighter jet with two air-launched Hsiung Feng III missiles taking off for related tests.

Witnesses reported to a journalist from the Central News Agency that on the afternoon of the 7th, at the Qingquan Military Base in Taichung, the IDF Ching-kuo fighter jet with the registration number 1490 took off with one air-launched Hsiung Feng III missile mounted under each wing. The missiles were marked with white paint “AX-003” and related test markings. It was revealed that the air-launched Hsiung Feng III missile carried during this test flight was a simulated model.

The air-launched Hsiung Feng III anti-ship missile is being developed by the Institute of Nuclear and Energy Research, with the project being highly confidential, and personnel involved are unwilling to disclose further details. It is understood that the air-launched version of the Hsiung Feng III missile is smaller in size compared to the ship-launched and land-launched versions, allowing it to be mounted under the wings of the IDF Ching-kuo fighter jets. Since it is launched by the fighter jets, the original two boosters of the Hsiung Feng III missile have been omitted to reduce weight.
