The Republic of China Air Force Academy student Xu Haoming was sent to the United States Air Force Academy to study this year. When his family went to the United States to attend his graduation ceremony, they unfortunately encountered a major car accident. With the help of donations from various sectors, they were able to return to Taiwan safely. Xu Haoming expressed his gratitude to everyone for their assistance, and he plans to defend the airspace over the Taiwan Strait in the future, giving back to society with practical actions to protect his homeland.
Xu Haoming was sent to the US Air Force Academy to graduate this year. His mother and grandmother went to the US to attend the graduation ceremony and were involved in a major car accident while driving in Colorado on May 25 local time. The medical expenses were substantial. Overseas community organizations initiated online fundraising, and the Air Force Academy also mobilized donations from fellow Air Force comrades for emergency assistance.
The Republic of China Air Force Headquarters posted on their Facebook page “Republic of China Air Force” and uploaded a video, mentioning that the student Xu Haoming who went to the US Air Force Academy has returned to Taiwan on the evening of the 6th. The Air Force expressed gratitude for everyone’s concern and assistance to Xu Haoming and his family. Through the video, Xu Haoming conveyed his utmost respect to everyone.
In the video, Xu Haoming expressed that on the eve of his graduation from the Air Force Academy, his mother and grandmother went to the United States specifically to share the glory of his graduation, but unfortunately, a serious car accident occurred, preventing them from attending his graduation ceremony. At the time, the injuries were severe and the medical expenses were substantial, leaving him feeling extremely despondent and helpless.
After the incident, Xu Haoming thanked the overseas community, foreign compatriot associations, Ministry of National Defense, Air Force Headquarters, and his alma mater, the Air Force Academy, for their immediate assistance and support. He expressed gratitude to China Airlines, UIA International Rescue Team, Cathay Life and Property Insurance, Chi Mei Hospital physicians. With everyone’s tireless efforts and assistance, his mother and grandmother were safely escorted back to Taiwan from the United States. With the help of the Military Medical Office, they received comprehensive medical care at the Tri-Service General Hospital.
Xu Haoming mentioned that on June 7, the Air Force Academy established a special account for donations for the emergency assistance of Xu Haoming, a student studying in the US. This week, after being audited by a third party, the funds will be handed over for safekeeping to a cooperation fund trust. The generous donations from everyone will be used for his and his family’s “medical expenses in the US,” “care upon returning to Taiwan,” and “emergency living expenses,” ensuring that each contribution is properly utilized.
Furthermore, Xu Haoming sincerely thanked President Lai Ching-te, Vice President Hsiao Mei-chin, Legislator Wang Ting-yu, Penghu County Councilor Ou Zhongkai, Penghu County Magistrate and Speaker, as well as the Honorary Chairman of Military Friends Society, Lee Dong-liang, Chairman Huang Cheng-tsung, and all members. He likened them to the lyrics of a song “blocking a few drops of rain,” holding up an umbrella during this difficult time, allowing him to feel the beauty and warmth of the world. In the future, he vows to defend the airspace, expressing his gratitude to society with practical actions. He aspires to continue growing and thriving, being someone who extends kindness and perpetuates a cycle of goodwill.
