On February 7th, several netizens posted videos on social media indicating that Tangshan Nanhu Hospital (a Grade III hospital) has closed and stopped providing medical services. The hospital staff confirmed the news to the Chinese media. It was reported that just three days prior, the hospital had released a recommendation for outpatient experts.
The video footage showed the first-floor reception hall of Nanhu Hospital empty, with the doors of various examination rooms closed. There were only a few staff members in the hallway, and an ambulance was seen at the entrance of the building picking up patients. The person who posted the video mentioned that their relative was still hospitalized at Nanhu Hospital and hadn’t fully recovered yet, but the hospital informed them to be discharged.
According to Benliu News, on the afternoon of the 7th, reporters learned from Nanhu Hospital that they have ceased medical consultations, and inpatients are being discharged gradually. Refund services for cards and remaining balances are being processed as usual.
When the reporter asked the hospital staff to confirm whether Nanhu Hospital had indeed closed down, the staff member admitted that it “should be” the case but mentioned they were unsure about the specific reasons behind the closure.
A journalist from “Xiaoxiang Morning News” found on social media that several netizens with IP addresses from Hebei province had posted asking whether Tangshan Nanhu Hospital had gone bankrupt and closed down. One netizen mentioned that on the morning of the 7th, the hospital was still operating normally but suddenly stopped accepting any new registrations. Patients who had not been discharged were also notified to transfer to other hospitals.
At 6 p.m. that day, the media reporter attempted to call the contact number listed on Tangshan Nanhu Hospital’s official website multiple times but received no answer. The on-duty staff of the Tangshan Health Commission claimed they were not aware of the situation.
Reports stated that on February 4th, Tangshan Nanhu Hospital’s official subscription account had even released a recommendation for outpatient experts, and they were operating as usual during the Chinese New Year period.
Public records show that Tangshan Nanhu Hospital opened in 2018 with a total building area of 116,000 square meters, an investment of 2.08 billion Chinese yuan, 1680 beds, 41 clinical departments, and 15 medical technology departments. The hospital has over 1700 staff members and is a large private Grade III hospital integrating medical care, rehabilitation, and health checkups.
