“Subculture Celebrities Backing Up, Huang Youxing and Others Join in the Preliminary Election”

The non-partisan political organization “Asian Wave Alliance” in New York City announced the list of endorsements for the city-level primaries on June 9, 2025. In the mayoral race, former governor Andrew Cuomo was listed as the top choice, while in the city council elections, the endorsements went to Huang Youxing, Ye Lingxia, and Yu Yanzhi.

Chairperson of Asian Wave Alliance, Yiatin Chu, stated that Cuomo has a deep understanding of priority issues in the Asian community, and his extensive administrative experience gives them confidence that he can lead New York City back on the right track.

The party’s internal primaries scheduled for June 24 will use a “ranked-choice voting” system. In the mayoral primaries, Whitney Tilson, listed as the second priority candidate by Asian Wave Alliance, is being supported. Vice Chairperson Yi Fang Chen expressed that Tilson has shown a high level of concern for education issues in New York City and is a strong advocate for educational accountability and reform.

Scott Stringer, the former New York City Comptroller, was recommended as the third priority candidate for the mayoral election by Asian Wave Alliance. Donghui Zang, co-founder of Asian Wave Alliance and president of the New York City Resident Alliance, stated that Stringer is the only candidate with children attending public schools, showing practical understanding of diverse student needs.

In other city-level primary positions, Asian Wave Alliance endorsed State Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar for Public Advocate; Mark Levine, the incumbent Manhattan Borough President for City Comptroller; and Khari Edwards for Brooklyn Borough President.

For city council primaries, Asian Wave Alliance supports Eric Yu in the 1st district, Phil Wong in the 30th district, Ling Ye in the 38th district, and supported George Sarantopoulos in the Republican primary for the 47th district, without endorsing any candidate in the Democratic primary.

Asian Wave Alliance calls on Asian American voters to actively participate in the Democratic primaries, supporting candidates who truly represent safety, meritocracy, equal opportunity, and ethnic inclusivity.

The primary election day is on June 24 (Tuesday), with early voting starting on June 14 (Saturday) at designated polling stations. Democratic primary candidates participating in the mayoral and most city council elections must be registered Democrats.
