In order to commemorate the “National Alien Abduction Day” that fell on March 20th, the online gambling guide website Casino.ca analyzed the probabilities of residents in various states and provinces of the United States and Canada being abducted by aliens. Surprisingly, the likelihood of such an event is even higher than being struck by lightning.
According to Casino.ca, this analysis was based on reports of UFO sightings from the National UFO Reporting Center dating back to its establishment in 1974, as well as details of these sightings found on social media.
The analysis revealed that there have been a total of 182,018 UFO sightings in the United States to date. This translates to a probability of approximately 1 in 1834 (about 0.0545%) of Americans experiencing alien abduction. In Canada, there have been 33,053 UFO sightings, resulting in a probability of approximately 1 in 1210 (about 0.0826%) for Canadians being abducted by aliens.
Comparatively, according to data from the Encyclopædia Britannica website, the probability of being struck by lightning in a lifetime in the United States is around 1 in 15300. Clearly, the probability of alien abduction is significantly higher.
In the United States, California boasts the highest probability of being abducted by aliens, standing at 1 in 1075, which means that 1 in 1075 individuals may have encountered a UFO. On the other hand, Louisiana ranks as the least likely state to experience alien abduction, with a probability of 1 in 3815.
Interestingly, despite its association with the mysterious “Area 51,” Nevada is only ranked 10th in terms of the probability of alien abduction. This contrasts with the common perception of the state as a hub for frequent UFO activities.
For Canada, Ontario holds the highest probability of alien abduction among provinces, with a likelihood of 1 in 667. Following closely is Alberta, ranking second with a probability of 1 in 700. Newfoundland and Labrador province is the least likely to experience alien abduction, with a probability of 1 in 8692.

Casino.ca concludes that whether you enjoy stargazing at night or embarking on adventures, you never know when the extraterrestrials in their large green spacecraft might unexpectedly pay a visit.
Regarding the existence of aliens, Sarah Rugheimer, an astrobiologist at York University in Canada, informed CTV News that there is currently no evidence of intelligent life on other planets.
However, Rugheimer mentioned that with billions of planets in the galaxy, many of which are potentially habitable, she would be quite surprised if there were no signs of life on them. Human beings, though, still lack the means to confirm this.
She added that even if alien life does exist, humans have no way to communicate with them. The likelihood of extraterrestrial life engaging in conversations with humans is deemed very low according to her perspective.
