The Youth Lion Youth Orchestra (referred to as the Youth Lion Orchestra) held the 8th “Talent Performance Concert” at the Taiwan Center in New York on March 22. One of the students who has been studying in the orchestra for 6 years, Joyce Han, was recently admitted early by Cornell University, one of the eight Ivy League universities.
Students performed piano, violin, flute, jazz drums, singing, and more at the concert, showcasing their learning achievements. Conductor and cellist Qi Ren Zhong hosted the performance, and Artistic Director Xiu Rong Fang, Deputy Director Yuqi Wang from the New York Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Service Center, and parents attended the show, providing encouragement to the students.
Joyce Han joined the Youth Lion Youth Orchestra at the age of 12, where she plays both violin and piano. Over the past 6 years, she has not only developed her musical skills but also broadened her horizons. Currently studying at the specialized high school “Bronx Science High School,” she stated that her experience in the Youth Lion Youth Orchestra has allowed her to “meet many different people and see different things, broadening her horizons.” The orchestra regularly organizes performances at Lincoln Center, the Taiwan Center, and community events, boosting her confidence and allowing her to perform “more calmly and confidently in front of others.”
Joyce Han has a passion for mathematics and programming, with music serving as another outlet for her thoughts. She mentioned that when faced with heavy mathematical thinking, she listens to music to change her perspective in problem-solving, while also using music to relax.
The training and performances in the Youth Lion Orchestra have not only enriched Joyce Han’s extracurricular experiences but also become an important element in her university application. She was delighted to receive the early admission notice from Cornell University recently.
