In California, USA, during the raging Los Angeles wildfire that lasted for days, a statue of the Virgin Mary remained unscathed, inspiring one family witnessing the miracle to strengthen their faith in God and burst into hymns of praise.
According to Fox News, the patriarch of this family is Peter Halpin. In an interview, he mentioned that everything else was destroyed by the fire, but the statue of the Virgin Mary and another statue of Saint Joseph remained undamaged.
Peter Halpin’s wife, Jackie, shared that their son-in-law visited their burned-down house the day before to take photos secretly, only to discover the statue of the Virgin Mary standing tall. Overwhelmed by the sight, she fell to her knees in excitement.
Realizing the significance, they knew they had to visit the site in person to pay homage and express gratitude for the 37 years they had spent there through God’s grace.
Peter Halpin described their family’s “illicit” visit to the remnants of their old house. When they found that the devastating “Eaton Fire” had destroyed the remaining parts, they turned to their faith and broke into hymns of praise. Joining him in the singing were his six children and other relatives.
He said, “Our family has always been devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and that’s how my entire family, my extended family, has been, so we prayed to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and then we sang the special song that our entire family has been singing for decades to the Virgin Mary, and it was a wonderful thing.”
They uploaded the video of their singing on Instagram, which has now gone viral. Peter Halpin mentioned, “Our intention was not to go viral. It was just a family affair, but the response has been incredible and very heartfelt.”
Jackie expressed that they wanted to pray and thank God for keeping them safe. She said, “The song in the video just came naturally, so I just wanted to pray. I just wanted to appreciate everything we have.”
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office reported on the evening of January 16 that the death toll from the Los Angeles wildfire had risen to 27. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
