The Chinese translation of ‘America’ means ‘Beautiful Country,’ which not only serves as the name of the celebration but also encapsulates the belief that America is indeed beautiful. The organizers of the “Beautiful America” celebration made this statement during the event over the weekend.
On July 13, 2024, the second edition of the “Beautiful America” celebration took place in the Deer Park town in the Hudson River Valley. The opening ceremony featured a flag-raising ceremony by the United States Air Force National Guard honor guard and a soulful rendition of the national anthem by renowned singer Mika Hale. The legendary figure known as the “Polka King,” Jimmy Sturr, capped off the day with a mesmerizing performance, having won the Grammy award 18 times.
The Hudson River Valley, steeped in history and home to the West Point Military Academy, boasts a significant population of veterans. Organizer James H. White highlighted that the “Beautiful America” celebration also serves as a tribute to those who have dedicated themselves to this great land, including veterans, active military personnel, and rescue workers.
The event was filled with exciting performances, a variety of food stalls, and participation from local and nearby towns’ artisans and community service organizations such as the New York State Police, Warrior Camp Program, and the local Veterans Committee.
A prominent signboard erected at the event asked, “Why do you love America?” Encouraging attendees to share their American values, beautiful stories, and life experiences, prompting many participants to leave heartfelt messages on the board.
During interviews, some participants expressed that America’s beauty lies in the freedom it provides, including freedom of speech and religion. They commended the friendly nature of the people and appreciated the collaborative efforts to make the country better. Others noted the willingness of Americans to step up in times of need, sign petitions, and ask, “How else can I help?” exemplifying the beauty of the country.
For some, America’s beauty resided in events like the celebration, where people could come together to appreciate different cultures and enjoy culinary delights.
State Assembly Minority Whip and Assemblyman for the 98th District of New York, Karl Brabenec, attended the event. He emphasized that America’s beauty stemmed from its spirit of freedom, and the country’s ability to provide opportunities for individuals to succeed and live the life they desire.
“This is the most beautiful place in the world,” Brabenec stated. “It is a land of freedom where you can be who you want to be, achieve success, and live the life you want. That’s what makes it beautiful.”
Brabenec hailed the organizers of the event for continually improving and expanding the festivities, bringing together people of all nationalities, races, and faiths for a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
After his performance, Jimmy Sturr expressed his delight at being part of the celebration, lauding the theme of “Beautiful America” and the interactions among attendees.
