The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated on the 16th that the wildfires in the mountainous regions of Southern California have caused severe disasters in recent days, with at least 25 confirmed casualties and over 12,300 structures destroyed by the flames. The fire situation remains critical, with nearly 90,000 people evacuated and estimated losses reaching $150 billion.
“Our donation will be made to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, as recommended by the Los Angeles city government, to purchase much-needed professional firefighting equipment,” the Republic of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“After the wildfires broke out in the mountains of Los Angeles, the Republic of China’s office in Los Angeles promptly extended condolences on behalf of the government to the local authorities. They have actively mobilized the resources of overseas communities and charitable organizations to provide disaster relief. So far, tens of thousands of N95 masks have been donated to rescue personnel, victims, and local educational institutions to address the severe air quality issues in the region. Many overseas Chinese organizations have also responded by initiating fundraisers, collecting supplies, and offering free accommodations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China emphasized the longstanding friendly relations between Taiwan and the United States, highlighting the deep bond between the people of Taiwan and America. Taiwan has had a sister state relationship with California for 41 years, and Southern California is home to the largest Taiwanese expatriate community in the United States. In the wake of the devastating wildfires in the region, Taiwan is actively extending a helping hand with a spirit of humanitarian care, embodying the motto “Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping.” They hope to facilitate smooth disaster relief operations, bring the situation under control at the earliest possible, and help the victims and Taiwanese expatriates in the area to resume normal lives.
