In March 2024, Chen Jinghui, a Falun Gong practitioner from Changchun City, Jilin Province, was abducted by the police and has been illegally detained in Changchun City Detention Center. Recently, Chen Jinghui’s sister, Chen Jingyu, who resides in New York, publicly urged for the immediate and unconditional release of her sister and all illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners.
According to information provided by Chen Jingyu, in March 2024, Chen Jinghui was abducted by the police as she stepped out of her parents’ rented house and was subjected to an illegal home search where her belongings, including computers and phones, were confiscated. Her octogenarian parents were left unattended.
Subsequently, someone called Chen Jinghui’s son asking him to wait for further instructions without disclosing which department detained Chen Jinghui or the investigating officers involved. In April, her son returned to Changchun from out of town, only to find out that his mother was abducted by the police stationed at the Changjiu Road Police Station.
Chen Jinghui, 55 years old, started practicing Falun Gong in 2011, and saw improvements in her health such as the disappearance of uterine fibroids, improved temper, and harmonious family relationships.
In 2015, Chen Jinghui was illegally detained for 15 days at the Weizi Gou Detention Center.
On February 28, 2017, upon returning home, she discovered her house ransacked, in disarray.
On September 17, 2021, around 8 p.m., police officers and community personnel attempted to arrest her without success. At that time, she was not at home, and her son received harassing phone calls.
In mid-March 2023, around 11 p.m., several police officers from the Guangfu Road in Changchun came to Chen Jinghui’s house and knocked on the door. Only her elderly parents were home at the time, resulting in significant psychological distress to the elderly couple.
Human rights lawyer Wu Shaoping from the United States expressed to reporters that the Chinese Communist Party is fearful of “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance” and systematically suppresses Falun Gong. Mainland Chinese human rights lawyer Li Ming stated that the persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP is lawless and against humanity.
Chen Jingyu informed reporters that the detention center where her sister is being held has reportedly been renamed Changchun Public Security Supervision Center. Family members are only allowed to deposit personal belongings and money for her there without any visitation rights.
Chen Jingyu and her husband Zhang Ming were both illegally detained by the CCP in China for practicing Falun Gong. In 2016, the family of three was forced to escape China and seek asylum in the United States. Chen Jingyu shared, “Over the past 25 years, our family has experienced separation by life and death.” She expressed deep concerns about her sister’s current health status, as she herself has suffered illegal detention and persecution, a torment both physically and mentally, that is indescribable.
She revealed that their octogenarian parents, left unattended, have now been moved to a nursing home.
On April 21, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in New York held a parade and rally in Flushing to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the peaceful appeal on April 25. Chen Jingyu made a passionate plea during the gathering, advocating for the immediate and unconditional release of her sister, Chen Jinghui, and all Falun Gong practitioners being illegally detained. She urged just people around the world to distance themselves from the CCP, withdraw from the CCP, disintegrate the CCP, and end the CCP’s atrocities.
