On February 8th, a sudden landslide occurred in Jinlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province, China. Local residents reported that at least a dozen households were buried and two to three dozen people were trapped.
Online videos showed a large area being buried by the landslide. Many people stood on high ground watching the scene unfold.
According to the video uploader who spoke to JiMu News, the landslide happened around 11 a.m. on February 8th, burying multiple houses and trapping people, including their relatives. The uploader has already evacuated to a safe area.
In the afternoon of the 8th, the Jinlian County Emergency Management Bureau reported that around 11:50 a.m. on the same day, a landslide occurred in Group 2 of Jinping Village, Muai Town, Jinlian County (small local name: Gaojiaping), burying several houses and trapping individuals. Two people have been rescued with no life-threatening injuries reported.
However, information shared by local internet users indicated that at least a dozen households were buried, with two to three dozen people trapped.
Many local netizens commented on the video section, expressing their shock and sympathy. One said, “More than a dozen households were buried, it’s too terrifying.” Another mentioned, “The entire mountain collapsed. Three of my family members are buried inside.” A different user added, “The mountain collapsed and many people were buried. At least twenty to thirty houses were destroyed. It’s so pitiful, we can’t even find the houses or bodies.”
