Recently, all teachers at Lezhi Middle School in Sichuan reported the school’s deputy principal surnamed Tan for 11 corrupt behaviors, including falsifying academic papers, cheating on exams, overcharging, and sexually harassing female students.
The online report letter circulating on the internet shows that Mr. Tan forced junior high and high school students to participate in expensive academic research projects under the guise of study tours. While charging 300 yuan outside the school, the school charged 800 yuan. He was accused of falsifying research topics and academic papers by forcefully appropriating and altering the achievements of senior physics teacher Mr. Lu.
Students were coerced into purchasing excessive extracurricular teaching materials, with the head teacher of the senior three class being forced to participate and collect money, and physics teacher Ning Yong was made a scapegoat after being reported by parents. Mr. Tan flaunted wealth in the office, and together with another deputy principal, forced high school and junior high students to buy tablets at a price of 4800 yuan, which is 3000 yuan more expensive than the market price. Parent complaints were disregarded.
The entire school staff were prohibited from offering private tutoring, yet Mr. Tan privately instructed his own students to attend school for tutoring sessions and charged them private tutoring fees. Despite multiple complaints from parents to the education bureau, no actions were taken. He illegally collected building fees through connections, forcing all teachers to purchase expensive suits at outrageous prices – 2000 yuan per set within the school, compared to the 300 yuan substandard suits outside. He also subcontracted the school’s printing room, classroom air conditioning, and office bottled drinking water under someone else’s name.
Furthermore, Mr. Tan colluded with education bureau officials annually to facilitate cheating for college entrance exams and high school entrance exams, with prices starting from 50,000 yuan. He also sold school placements for 30,000 yuan each and was accused of sexually harassing female students.
The report letter noted, “Every time the discipline inspection team visits the school, there are visible and hidden surveillance cameras everywhere, how can anyone speak out?”
The report letter has sparked a heated discussion online. Many netizens praised the courage to report, highlighting the need for collective action to expose such misconduct. Some expressed disbelief due to numerous typographical errors in the report letter, questioning its credibility. However, a local resident confirmed the authenticity, while others regretted the belated exposure of the school’s misconduct.
One commenter claimed personal knowledge of the school’s malpractices, emphasizing the prevalence of such issues being resolved privately before the internet era provided an exposure platform.
In response, the joint investigation team in Lezhi County, Sichuan, reported on December 30th that they had established a joint investigation team to verify and investigate the allegations.
