In Jialing District, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, a fire broke out in a smokehouse of a bacon factory recently, causing over a thousand pounds of sausages and bacon to be scrapped. The owner stated that he will not ask employees for compensation.
On January 2nd, a video titled “Fire in Bacon Factory, Over 1000 Pounds of Bacon Scrapped” circulated online, drawing attention from netizens and even became a top search on Baidu on January 3rd.
Ms. Wang from Nanchong, Sichuan, posted a video on January 1st, revealing that on December 31st last year, a fire accidentally broke out in their workshop while making bacon, resulting in the loss of all the bacon, sausages, and more, totaling around a thousand pounds.
A video from The Paper on January 2nd showed flames bursting out from a room, with a man trying to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. In the yard, three workers wearing aprons were present, and an elderly lady collapsed on a stack of firewood nearby, shedding tears.
In the video, Ms. Wang expressed that it was the first time she encountered such an incident after making bacon for so long. Sausages, pig tongues, and pig heads were all burnt, but thankfully, there were no casualties. She reminded everyone to be cautious when using fire, especially around the New Year.
According to the report from Cover News on January 2nd, the owner of the bacon factory, Mr. Wang Wennuan, revealed that on December 31, 2024, around 3:19 pm, their auntie employee was smoking in the smokehouse using the traditional method of smoking with cypress twigs. The smoking process was nearly complete for the day, and the batch of sausages was relatively dry. A spark appeared on the cypress twig due to the oil dripping from the smoked sausages.
“Upon seeing the spark, the auntie in charge of smoking immediately used the fire extinguisher in the fire safety area to put out the fire, extinguishing it twice,” stated Mr. Wang Wennaun. After the first extinguishing, the fire had diminished. However, when the auntie opened the lid of the smoking furnace to check the situation, the air circulation caused the fire to reignite and grow larger. Mr. Wang’s husband quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire upon noticing.
Mr. Wang mentioned, “The auntie blamed herself and kept comforting her, insisting that she doesn’t need to compensate.” After assessing the damage, the fire resulted in a loss of about forty to fifty thousand RMB.
