On Thursday afternoon, the university issued an alert stating that a shooting incident had taken place near the student union. Following this, ambulances, fire trucks, and patrol cars from various departments quickly rushed to the campus. Hundreds of students were evacuated from the student union.

According to 20-year-old junior student Joshua Sirmans, when the alarm went off, he was in the university’s main library and was informed of an active shooter nearby. He was instructed to “lock and stay away from all doors and windows, and take additional protective measures.” Law enforcement officers then instructed him and other students to cover their heads with their hands and escorted them out of the library.

A spokesperson mentioned that FBI officials are on the scene, and students and teachers have been instructed to seek cover and await further instructions.
