In the upscale residential area of Yuet Fu Phase II in Yuehai Street, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, a female victim of the explosion incident named Ah Wen had her scheduled farewell ceremony on December 14 canceled. Citizens flocked to the site of the explosion to offer flowers in remembrance and hung banners with the words: “Where is the truth? When will we bid farewell? We are all waiting.”
On December 11, an explosion occurred in a vacant luxury apartment on the 28th floor of Yuet Fu Phase II in Shenzhen Bay, causing a fire that spread to floors 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31, resulting in severe damage.
Numerous onlookers witnessed the tragic event as a woman living on the 29th floor was forced to the edge of the building by thick smoke and flames, clinging to the windowsill with no protection. Shortly after, she fell to her death. Many bystanders witnessed her despair and demise, with everyone lamenting how “horrible” it was.
According to reports by Red Star News, the intense fire forced Ah Wen, a 38-year-old resident on the 29th floor, to the wall edge that had already been blown open by the explosion. Unable to hold on, she tragically fell to her death along with her adopted dog.
Mr. Li, a real estate agent in Shenzhen, analyzed the structure of the exploded unit, suggesting that if a gas leak caused the explosion, the fire likely originated and had the most impact in the kitchen and near the main entrance, where Ah Wen may have been cornered by the blaze.
Ah Wen, born in January 1986 in Hubei Province, had moved to Shenzhen in recent years to work and establish a life, becoming what locals call a “Shen Drifter” through her migration.
Insiders disclosed that when Ah Wen first arrived in Shenzhen, she worked at a company that collaborated with Shenzhen Nan You Foreign Service Human Resources Co., Ltd.
The farewell ceremony for Ah Wen, initially scheduled for December 14 at the Shenzhen Funeral Parlor, was later called off. Instead, citizens gathered at the building’s site to lay flowers, while the police set up barricades for security.
Repairs on the exterior walls of the luxury residence where the incident occurred began on December 14, as citizens and commissioned food delivery riders continued to bring flowers for mourning. Two white banners were displayed at the scene, each bearing the same question: “Where is the truth? When will we bid farewell? We are all waiting.” Several property owners voiced their concerns, demanding authorities to investigate property management issues. Posts related to mourning on mainland social media platforms have been deleted.
There is unconfirmed speculation that Ah Wen’s family is seeking the truth and compensation. The specifics of the situation remain unknown.
