According to Bloomberg, United States Secret Service agents opened fire while patrolling near Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s home in Washington D.C. No one was hit, and the suspect fled the scene. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Secret Service stated in a release that the agent fired shots during a confrontation with an individual who appeared to be trying to break into a car parked on the street.
There is no evidence that anyone was hit, and the suspect managed to escape, as reported by a source who preferred to remain anonymous to Bloomberg. The incident took place near Yellen’s residence.
Regarding the incident, the Secret Service said, “In this incident, no protectee was threatened or injured.”
The U.S. Department of the Treasury declined to comment on the matter.
According to the Secret Service, the involved officer is currently under investigation by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s internal affairs firearms review unit. This unit is responsible for investigating all firearms-related incidents involving law enforcement officers in the U.S. capital.
The agency stated that the Department of Justice will conduct an independent review of the facts and evidence related to the case.
