Rising Hostility in Chinese Society: Over 60 Attacks Happened in the Past Month.

In response to the incident where a man from Jilin attacked an American teacher, a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that “China is one of the safest countries in the world.” However, incidents of attacks and violence continue to surge across China, with almost daily occurrences of malicious events.

On July 12, a user on the overseas social platform X revealed that on July 9, a 14-year-old boy in Xiamen, Fujian, demanded a 4000 to 5000 electric motorcycle from his mother. When his mother refused to buy it for him, the boy used a pre-prepared dagger to stab his mother over fifty times, resulting in her immediate death.

According to local netizens on mainland Chinese social media, this matricide incident took place on July 9 in the underground parking lot of Baolong Plaza in Tong’an District of Xiamen. The boy wanted to purchase a “Number Nine Electric Vehicle” popular among local middle school students and, when his mother disagreed, he brutally stabbed her to death.

Reported by Hexun News, on July 10, in a dining establishment on Wanda Jin Street in Xiangfu Street, Hangzhou, a quarrel between 25-year-old Tan and 49-year-old Shen over trivial matters escalated, leading Shen to injure Tan with a kitchen knife. After being restrained by the police, netizen Pan published related information and was subsequently summoned by the police for “spreading rumors” and will face consequences.

On July 5, a deliberate injury case occurred in Dagujing Street, Jiancheng Street, Jianyang City, Sichuan Province, resulting in two injuries. Jianyang police reported that suspect Jiang injured two individuals due to a dispute over daily matters.

On July 4, the police in Tiexi District of Shenyang City reported a knife attack in the Sunshine Garden Community on Xingong South Street, resulting in three deaths and one injury. The suspect, Wang, has a history of mental illness and has been apprehended.

Netizens have listed nine recent violent incidents in Shenyang, with at least nine fatalities and multiple injuries occurring after July 2.

Authorities, in response to such negative news, not only block information but also continuously attempt to “debunk rumors” through the police, official media, and internet influencers.

On July 3, a criminal case unfolded in a community in Dongying City, Shandong Province, where Ma (female, 60), her daughter Ma (female, 25), and her grandson Liu were injured. Dongying police announced that suspect Zhao (husband of Ma) fled and later committed suicide.

According to reports from Xinjing News, on June 9, in Zhonghangcheng Community, Pidu District, Chengdu City, a 27-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by a fellow resident in front of her home. On June 11, the police announced that suspect Liang had been criminally detained.

On June 18, a major criminal case occurred in the village of Ershijia, Chasuqi Town, Tumotezuo Banner, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia, where a family of five was wiped out. The police issued a notice offering a reward for suspect Huo. A netizen claiming to be a local villager stated, “Huo acted out of desperation and killed the family of the village tyrant.”

Notably, on June 10, a man in Jilin City stabbed four foreigners and one Chinese tourist, leading to his arrest on the same day. This incident garnered attention and condemnation from the US government and congressional members.

To mitigate the negative impact of this event, Lin Jian, a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asserted during a press conference on the 11th that “this case was an isolated incident” and reiterated that “China is globally recognized as one of the safest countries.”

On June 24, Suzhou City witnessed another attack on foreign nationals as a Japanese mother with her preschool-aged son waited at a bus stop for the school bus of a Japanese school. A Chinese man suddenly approached them with a knife, attacking the mother and child. Prior to this, a Chinese woman, Hu Youping, had stopped the same man from boarding the school bus. Once again, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs classified this incident as an “isolated incident.”

In reality, such attacks and subsequent killings occur almost daily in China.

On the X platform of overseas social media, a search conducted by a reporter from Dajiyuan on July 12 revealed that over the past month, there have been 25 videos circulating online showing attacks and murders carried out by civilians in China.

Recent data compiled by netizens identified at least 60 incidents of assaults on others or suicides across mainland China in just over a month, involving provinces and municipalities such as Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hebei, Henan, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, among others.

Regarding the frequent occurrence of various negative events in China and the escalating societal hostility, Du Wen, former Executive Director of the Legal Advisory Office of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government, expressed to Dajiyuan in May this year that “in recent years, under the high-pressure rule of the Communist Party, economic downturn, unjust judiciary, lack of relief channels for the people, severe societal psychological pressures have led to the emergence of various social malignancies.”

“Such phenomena in social psychology are known as ‘extreme behaviors caused by social pressure’ or ‘violence induced by social pressure’,” Du Wen believes that “these current issues in Chinese society are a direct manifestation of social disintegration under Communist Party rule.”
