Riding a Motorcycle in Nanjing, China: Richie Jen Reveals Getting a Traffic Ticket

Taiwanese artist Richie Jen, who loves riding motorcycles, revealed in a video on February 19 that he received a traffic ticket for riding a motorcycle in Nanjing, China. This news has attracted attention and sparked discussions.

Richie Jen explained, “Because I borrowed the motorcycle from a friend, the license plate had restrictions, and I unintentionally entered a restricted area where cameras captured my license plate and me. The traffic police department informed me that I violated the rules.” He displayed the ticket in the video, showing that it included penalty points and a fine.

It is worth noting that in recent years, the Chinese traffic management department has been criticized for using traffic fines as a means of generating revenue. Fines have become a financial “treasure” for the traffic management department. Despite public ridicule likening the department to “licensed robbers,” Richie Jen spoke calmly in the video, admitting to his mistake and saying, “Next time, I need to be clearer about traffic regulations. There are some routes that I don’t fully understand, and we should humbly accept our mistakes.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time Richie Jen has crossed paths with the city of Nanjing. Many years ago, he gained popularity in Nanjing with a hit song “Heart Too Soft.” Now, returning to Nanjing, he has once again captured attention in a different way. Although this time it was due to being ticketed and trending online, some netizens humorously commented, “The (traffic police) don’t have a ‘soft heart’ for forgiveness,” and remarked, “First time seeing someone so honest.”

In the closing part of the video, Richie Jen revealed that he will be holding a concert in Nanjing. He said, “I’m heading home now, no need to encounter me on the road, see you at the concert in May!”
