Rich businessman involved in Henan town bank case rumored to have a meal with actress Zheng Shuang in Los Angeles.

Recently, former Chinese actress Zheng Shuang, who had been blacklisted from the Chinese entertainment industry due to tax evasion and surrogacy scandals, has once again become a hot topic of discussion.

On overseas Chinese platforms such as Xiaohongshu and WeChat, there have been sightings of Zheng Shuang currently residing in Los Angeles, appearing in a photo with married Henan tycoon Ye Yanwei. It was reported that Ye Yanwei had settled in the United States due to his involvement in a major financial case, and is living together with Zheng Shuang and several other women in a mansion in Arcadia.

Responding to the rampant rumors, Zheng Shuang took to social media to address the speculations, emphasizing that she is self-sufficient overseas and does not rely on anyone. She stated, “Please trust me, I am certain of my innocence!” In an emotional voice message, she choked up and expressed her confusion about why such rumors had surfaced, questioning, “Whom have I offended?” She strongly urged all parties to stop tarnishing her reputation.

In April 2022, a number of village banks in Henan experienced a crisis where customers were unable to withdraw money: branches including Xinminsheng Village Bank in Yuzhou, Huimin Village Bank in Shangcai, Huanghuai Village Bank in Zhecheng, and New Oriental Village Bank in Kaifeng suddenly closed their online withdrawal and transfer services without warning, involving billions of yuan and affecting around 400,000 depositors. Customers were unable to access their savings, leading to widespread panic.

In June of the same year, bank customers’ health codes inexplicably turned red, sparking suspicions that the health code was being used as a stability maintenance tool. It was revealed by mainland media that owners of unfinished buildings in Zhengzhou were also marked with “red codes,” drawing continuous public attention.

On July 10th, two to three thousand aggrieved depositors from village banks across the country took to the People’s Bank of China Zhengzhou branch to protest for their rights. Around noon, a large group of people in white and black clothes resorted to violence, dragging and capturing individuals and transferring them to various locations. Netizens criticized the Henan authorities for their actions resembling that of the mafia, violently suppressing citizens seeking justice. Ye Yanwei, who is accused of embezzling depositors’ funds, currently resides in Los Angeles.

Within the Los Angeles Chinese community, rumors are circulating about Ye Yanwei cohabiting with multiple intimate partners in a lavish mansion in Arcadia. Following the official ban imposed by the Chinese government and subsequent enforcement of fines totaling over 200 million yuan against her by the courts, Zheng Shuang’s financial situation has become a matter of public scrutiny. Unable to return to China for career development, her sources of income in the United States are under intense scrutiny.

Our reporters attempted to reach out to Ye Yanwei for comment, but had not received a response by the time of publication.
