Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency in the United States, a position previously supported by President Trump. Billionaire Elon Musk will now lead this newly established organization on his own.
According to the Associated Press, officials from the Trump administration confirmed this news shortly after the new president took office.
At 39 years old, Ramaswamy is a biotechnology entrepreneur who ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has stated his plans to run for governor next year.
Anna Kelly, spokesperson for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), stated in a press release, “Vivek Ramaswamy played a crucial role in helping us establish the Department of Government Efficiency. He intends to seek public office shortly, and based on the framework we announced today, he was requested to stay out of the Department of Government Efficiency.”
“We are very grateful for his contributions over the past two months and look forward to his significant role in making America great again,” the statement added.
President Trump appointed Musk and Ramaswamy to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, a special task force and non-governmental organization tasked with finding appropriate ways to lay off unnecessary federal employees, cut regulations, and eliminate expired projects to comprehensively reform the U.S. government. All these measures are part of Trump’s second term “Save America” agenda.
As a tech entrepreneur, Ramaswamy is one of the wealthiest millennials globally and is now transitioning into politics. He has been a fierce critic of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and is a rising star among conservatives.
Ramaswamy is also a staunch supporter of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement. During last year’s presidential campaign, he ranked fourth in the Republican primaries in Iowa and then withdrew from the race to support Trump.
