Residential Building Foundation Sinking in a Community in Guyuan, Ningxia

On January 27, a residential building in a community in Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, experienced a foundation sinking incident, which became a hot topic on Baidu’s search results for January 28.

According to a report by Xinjing News on January 27, the Guyuan City Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party released an official statement on its official Weibo account regarding the sinking of the foundation and the cracking of the building expansion joint of Building 22 in the Bi Guiyuan Tianchen community on January 27. The bureau stated that they received reports from residents about the sinking of the foundation on January 19 and have commissioned relevant units to conduct assessments of the foundation and building structure.

The announcement confirmed the validity of the information previously shared by netizens about the sinking foundation of the building.

Videos uploaded by netizens on January 27 show the ground floor of a high-rise building being excavated, with an excavator clearing up soil at the scene. There are large and long cracks on the ground.

This news has drawn the attention of many netizens.

Some netizens expressed their sympathy, saying, “The residents are so pitiful. They worked hard to buy their homes, only to encounter such an issue. Hopefully, it can be resolved quickly to provide everyone with a safe living environment.” Others questioned, “The building was just completed not long ago, so does this problem stem from quality issues during the construction phase? Where were the regulatory authorities? Wasn’t this obvious issue noticed before? They only think of seeking third-party assessments now that something has happened. What were they doing before?”

A netizen named “Zuiran” commented, “Do they still need testing for this?” While another netizen, “Ruxiaoyan,” believed, “This is a substandard construction project, luckily it was discovered early.”
