Recently, former Inner Mongolia official Du Wen announced his “break with the CCP” and launched the “lifeboat plan” for CCP officials due to retaliation against his relatives. “This is both the correct and honorable path of human justice, and the expression of my anger,” he said. Du Wen released a video on March 18, declaring his “break with the CCP” and vowed to overthrow the Party. The backdrop of this incident was the CCP control of the public security commanding the court to retaliate against his relatives by sealing the property of Mr. Du’s wife’s brother.
Du Wen explained that the property was purchased in 2009 for 500,000 yuan. During his 12 years and 8 months in prison, his in-laws paid over 500,000 yuan in lawyer fees. After his son was admitted to a top 20 university in North America, they sold the property to pay for tuition and living expenses. Following his release, through family consultations, the property was transferred to his wife’s parents and brother, placing it under the brother’s name.
Du Wen, formerly the executive director of the Legal Advisory Office of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government, was sentenced to prison for 12 years and 8 months for allegedly involved in a bribery case involving public funds in the Inner Mongolia government. In 2023, Du Wen was released from prison and fled to Belgium in October the same year. Later, Du Wen revealed to the media that some individuals wanted to use public funds to bring down Hu Chunhua, and the Inner Mongolia government used public funds to give gifts to Meng Jianzhu. This case is a complete political case.
Du Wen recently stated in an interview with Epoch Times that breaking with the CCP was a long-term consideration. After coming out of China last year, he merely wanted to provide objective comments on the reality and phenomena of the CCP in the news but did not expect continuous harassment and suppression from the CCP.
“Last year, my father-in-law died suddenly under continuous harassment from the CCP. A series of events, including the situation of my brother-in-law, eventually led me to make this decision. I think it’s time to take action,” he said. Du Wen believes that the CCP is currently in a state of confusion, having completely lost its way. The Communist Party is destined to perish, falling victim to its judicial system because they are not a force preserving social order but rather destroying it.
Du Wen urged CCP officials with a conscience to escape the clutches of the CCP, ensuring safety for their loved ones and assets. He vowed to turn the tables on the CCP officials, promising to bring out millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions in assets confiscated from his relatives. He aims to sway officials in key positions against the Party.
On March 19, Du Wen detailed how CCP officials can escape. He mentioned that since Xi Jinping came to power, there have been successive waves of political purges and storms. Officials feel uneasy, walking a tightrope between government and prison. An atmosphere of deathly silence pervades the officialdom, with everyone outwardly expressing loyalty while secretly yearning to escape.
For instance, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs was suddenly removed after a few months, and the Minister of National Defense disappeared. Generals in charge of the rocket army, along with high-ranking officials in the financial system, were either investigated or mysteriously died. Even former Premier Li Keqiang, while residing in Shanghai, had a sudden heart attack while swimming, leading Du Wen to suggest it was an “assassination.”
Du Wen recounted the story of a friend who was once a deputy mayor and a fervent Party loyalist. After being imprisoned, he criticized the CCP incessantly. Accused of hiding gold bars in his father’s grave, officials dug up the grave in the middle of the night, only to find nothing. This experience left a deep scar on the deputy mayor, making him realize the ruthlessness of the CCP.
Under such high pressure, Du Wen noted that the officialdom is filled with surveillance and fear. Xi Jinping’s disciplinary, security, public security, customs, and other departments have set up an Orwellian surveillance system. Loyalty does not equate to safety in an authoritarian regime. He urged officials to leave through legal means, as staying would require them to compromise their conscience and participate in unjust acts.
According to a report by the human rights organization Safeguard Defenders released in January, the number of asylum seekers in China has surpassed one million during Xi Jinping’s tenure, reaching 1,158,739 people. The number of asylum seekers in 2022 equaled the total for Hu Jintao’s ten-year term. The number of asylum seekers in 2024 increased by 1,426% compared to the 12,362 individuals in 2012 when Xi Jinping assumed power.
Du Wen believes that among these asylum seekers are awakened individuals from within the system. Western countries have a high success rate in granting asylum to Chinese dissidents. Presenting a plan for defection within the legal framework to protect oneself and family from authoritarian oppression, Du Wen emphasized the importance of leaving legally and avoiding illegal activities.
The steps include evacuating family members first through legal channels, transferring funds legally, seeking legal exit routes, exchanging confidential information, ensuring safe landing abroad, and making ethical sacrifices. Du Wen predicted a hopeful future for China without the CCP, as he believes the Chinese people are diligent, brave, and patient, with a promising path ahead when the CCP is overthrown.
