Renowned Chinese medical expert dies in a traffic accident

On February 20th, a well-known spinal neurosurgeon in Mainland China, Xiu Bo, tragically passed away in a traffic accident.

According to a message from the Spina Bifida Committee of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation on the official WeChat account on February 22nd, Xiu Bo, a renowned spinal neurosurgeon in China, was involved in a traffic accident. Despite rescue efforts, he sadly passed away at 10 a.m. on February 20th at the Navy General Hospital in Beijing, at the age of 62.

Xiu Bo, born in June 1962, was a chief physician and medical doctor. He previously served as the founder of the Neurosurgery Department at Tsinghua University Yinquan Hospital and was the head of the Spinal Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery Departments at the former 81 Brain Hospital affiliated with the Army General Hospital. In January of this year, he was appointed as a special expert in neurosurgery at the Beijing Aviation General Hospital.

Xiu Bo was a renowned spinal neurosurgery expert in Mainland China and had received numerous awards for his contributions to the field.

Recently, there have been continuous reports of the passing of experts and scholars in Mainland China. On February 9th, the news of the death of Song Wenwen, a 41-year-old associate professor at the Nanjing Normal University School of Fine Arts, became a hot topic.

Similarly, the news of the unexpected passing of Li Feng, a 48-year-old Mainland Chinese economist during the Chinese New Year period, also became a hot topic twice.

An article by Mainland China blogger “書影念痕” mentioned that Li Feng was another expert in China who met an untimely end due to an accident.

The article highlighted the surprisingly high incidence of accidents leading to the deaths of top scientists over recent years across various fields such as biology, economics, military, physics, and aerospace. These incidents of top scientists dying in accidents have become alarmingly frequent.

The article cited the case of Zhou Guangyuan, an expert in the field of polymer materials. On December 16, 2023, while on a business trip in Changchun City, Jilin Province, he tragically lost his life in a severe traffic collision at the age of 51.
