Volkswagen Group is recalling nearly 60,500 Audi and Volkswagen vehicles from the 2021 to 2023 model years in the United States. According to the recall notice, these vehicles may have a fault that prevents the correct display of gear positions.
The statement issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) mentioned that several different models and years of vehicles are affected by this recall. Some of the models included are:
– Volkswagen ID.4 from 2021 to 2023
– Audi Q4 e-Tron from 2022 to 2023
– Audi Q4 e-Tron Sportback from 2022 to 2023
The recall notice from NHTSA states that the reason for the recall is a potential malfunction in the vehicles’ instrument cluster, leading to the Neutral gear not correctly displaying in the gear position indicator area, which may cause drivers to make incorrect judgments. For instance, it could lead to unintended vehicle movement if the parking brake is not engaged. Therefore, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 102.
Owners of the vehicles listed in the recall can bring their vehicles to authorized dealerships, where the problematic software will be updated free of charge. It is expected that official notifications regarding the issue will be sent to owners by April 25, 2025. Owners can contact the following customer service hotlines for more information:
– Volkswagen Customer Service Hotline: 1-800-893-5298
– Audi Customer Service Hotline: 1-800-253-2834
The recall numbers for this campaign are:
– Volkswagen: 97H3
– Audi: 454R
NHTSA also advises owners to always engage the parking brake before exiting the vehicle and to check if the red parking brake indicator light on the instrument cluster is illuminated in order to prevent unintended vehicle movement accidents.
