Since the start of the rainy season in Bolivia last November, the country has been suffering from severe flooding. Some areas have been submerged in floodwaters for an extended period of time, leading to the tragic loss of 51 lives. The authorities declared a nationwide state of emergency on Wednesday, March 26.

Bolivian President Luis Arce announced during a press conference on Wednesday that “continuous heavy rainfall has affected around 380,000 households across 9 provinces nationwide. This disaster has compelled us to declare a state of emergency throughout the country.”

This measure is aimed at expediting the allocation of funds, procurement of supplies, and mobilizing additional manpower by the government to provide timely assistance to the affected people.

Official data indicates that as a result of severe rain, floods, and landslides, a total of 51 individuals have lost their lives in Bolivia so far. Over 800 houses have been completely destroyed, leaving over one hundred thousand people displaced.

Bolivia, a South American country with a population exceeding 12 million, typically experiences its rainy season from November through March. The ongoing situation in the country underscores the urgent need for support and relief efforts to mitigate the impact of the devastating floods on the affected population.
