Pennsylvania-based custom veneer manufacturing company, International Timber & Veneer – ITV, plans to shut down its factory by August 18, 2025. The veneer manufacturing plant located in Jackson Center, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, cited unpredictable customs policies and a tense international trade environment as the primary reasons for the closure. Particularly, the import ban on American logs by China has led to significant uncertainty in raw material procurement.
The company’s website currently only displays a statement, beginning with, “We hereby inform you that our production facility in the United States – International Timber & Veneer – ITV will cease operations in the summer of 2025.”
The statement also mentioned that as a subsidiary of the IVC Group, the veneer manufacturing plant, established in 1997, has been providing high-quality wood processing veneers to trade companies under the group, R. Ulrich & Co., International Veneer Company (IVC South Hill), and various veneer trading companies worldwide.
Meanwhile, the company’s website for IVC, located in South Hill, Virginia, is still running normally.
The statement further explained that “the closure of the factory is a result of a series of factors such as a shortage of skilled labor, rising labor costs, as well as significant increases in equipment and production supplies prices.” Additionally, it mentioned that the global economic and trade conditions in 2025 also played a crucial role.
“The increasingly unpredictable customs policies, tense international trade environment, especially China’s ban on importing American logs has led to extreme uncertainty in raw material procurement.” These factors have cast a shadow over the prospects for manufacturers.
The closure of the factory is expected to result in 81 job losses. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor website has released detailed explanations of the factory closure as well as Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices.
