Peak cherry blossom season in Washington D.C. expected from March 28 to 31

On Thursday, February 27th, the National Park Service (NPS) in the United States announced on social media platform X that this year’s peak cherry blossom season in Washington, D.C. is predicted to be between March 28th and 31st.

According to information from the National Park Service, over 1700 cherry blossom trees are planted in the vicinity of the Tidal Basin, East Potomac Park, and the National Mall.

These cherry blossom trees were a gift from Japan to the United States in 1912, and the blooming of the cherry blossoms symbolizes the arrival of spring in the nation’s capital. The elements of these cherry blossoms can be seen everywhere – from the sides of metro trains and public buses to the uniforms of the Washington Nationals baseball team.

The blooming of the cherry blossoms is a signature landscape of Washington, and popular cherry blossom viewing spots include the Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin in front of the National Mall.

Especially during the peak bloom period of the cherry blossoms, the surroundings of the Tidal Basin become romantic and gentle, with a sea of pink and white flowers contrasting with the blue sky and sunlight, offering visitors a beautiful sightseeing experience.

According to the National Park Service’s definition, the peak bloom period of cherry blossoms refers to the time when 70% of the Yoshino cherry trees are in full bloom.

In 2024, the peak bloom date was March 17th, but due to cold weather conditions, this year’s peak bloom period is expected to arrive later.

The 2025 National Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from March 20th to April 13th, featuring a variety of rich cultural and artistic activities for visitors to enjoy.
