Over 540,000 Chinese-Made Tires Recalled in the US for Poor Snow Traction

China’s Prinx Chengshan Tire Company in Pulin Mountains has issued a recall of over 540,000 snow tires through its North American sales division, Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA). The reason behind this massive recall is that these tires do not meet North American standards, lacking sufficient grip on snowy roads and posing a risk of traffic accidents.

This recall affects over 100 different specifications of Fortune Tormenta and Prinx HiCountry tires, all bearing the three-peaked mountain snowflake symbol on their sidewalls.

According to documents, these tires were manufactured between August 24, 2020, and December 7, 2024. Marketed in the U.S. as snow replacement tires, they comply with European standards and are considered snow tires in Europe.

However, American standards differ from those of Europe. Testing revealed that several tire samples failed to meet North American standards.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration emphasized that tires lacking adequate snow traction increase the risk of accidents.

PCTNA is currently exploring solutions for the recall and will submit a revised recall report once a resolution is found. Preliminary notification letters will be sent to vehicle owners by no later than February 1, 2025.
